Skills for Growing Program
General
We have run the Skills for Growing program at several primary schools in the City of Kingston. This is a “social skills” program for students in grades 3 to 6 and runs for 4 weeks.
Our Social Worker, Marion Harriden OAM, attends the school for an allocated time to work with the students.
Topics covered in discussion include
• Families – getting along with them
• Communication – talking to adults and other children
• Feelings – being afraid / anxious / aggressive
• Self esteem – feeling good about yourself
• Values – mine and yours
• Bullying – what do I do?
• Conflict – strategies
Positive comments from teachers
