Skills for Growing Program

General
We have run the Skills for Growing program at several primary schools in the City of Kingston. This is a “social skills” program for students in grades 3 to 6 and runs for 4 weeks.
Our Social Worker, Marion Harriden OAM, attends the school for an allocated time to work with the students.
Topics covered in discussion include
•    Families – getting along with them
•    Communication – talking to adults and other children
•    Feelings – being afraid / anxious / aggressive
•    Self esteem – feeling good about yourself
•    Values – mine and yours
•    Bullying – what do I do?
•    Conflict – strategies

Positive comments from teachers

•    “Students reflected on their lives and opened a door to further discussion during class time.”
